Held at the world-famous Fisherman’s Wharf over three action-packed days from Thursday August 14 through Saturday August 16, this “must attend” event promises to deliver our signature high-octane experience and huge selection of today’s finest and most interesting collector automobiles ranging from time-honored classics to victorious competition cars and modern ‘supercars’ with virtually everything in between.

Rooted in the pioneering work by Enzo Ferrari’s late son Alfredino (“Dino”) and brought to fruition by renowned engineer Vittorio Jano, the Ferrari ‘Dino’ V-6 racing engine design went on to very successfully power various Ferrari F1, F2, and sports-racing cars during the late 1950s and 1960s, beginning in 1958 with Ferrari’s achievement of the Grand Prix Manufacturer’s title with legendary driver Mike Hawthorn. Further work begat the mid-engine 156 “Sharknose” for the 1961 Grand Prix season, which Phil Hill drove to that year’s Manufacturer’s and Driver’s titles.

Enzo Ferrari’s growing acceptance of V-6 power and the leading-edge mid-engine layout later inspired Pininfarina’s unpowered “Dino 206 S Speciale” displayed in Dino Ferrari’s honor at the 1965 Paris Salon, followed by the “Dino Berlinetta GT” at Turin the next year, this time complete with a transverse mid-mounted V-6 engine.

The first production Dino was designated 206 GT (denoting 2.0 liters of engine displacement and six cylinders) and debuted in 1967 at Turin. Notably, the 206 GT marked the first mid-engine production car released by Ferrari and marked the debut of the new Ferrari-based Dino brand. Just 150 were produced. The 246 GT arrived for 1969, with a power boost courtesy of its enlarged 2,418 cc engine. Capable of accelerating from rest to 60 mph in the seven-second range en route to a top speed in excess of 140 mph, the 246 GT delivered razor-sharp handling with its fully independent suspension and earned the praise of the motoring press and Ferrari enthusiasts alike. Nearly 2,500 were built. The Targa-roofed 246 GTS debuted for 1972 and was produced through 1974, featuring a lift-off roof panel, slightly longer wheelbase, and the elimination of the Berlinetta’s rear quarter-windows, marking the ultimate Dino with just 1,274 produced.

Numbered 07890, this late-production 246 GTS from 1974 is handsomely finished in Azzuro (Azure) with Tan Daytona seats (“Chairs”) and matching carpeting. It has traveled only an approximate 30,000 miles from new and is offered complete with documented history compiled by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini. Highly desirable factory options include air conditioning and power windows.

This Dino has received a full repaint and partial interior re-trim, as well as a complete service to bring to its current excellent standard. It is reported to run and drive as a Dino should and will not disappoint. Structurally, this Dino is one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has always been properly owned, stored and maintained by enthusiastic Ferrari collectors. In addition to factory tools and a jack, this Dino is accompanied by service records and ownership history. An unqualified Pininfarina design triumph with unforgettable driving dynamics, this 246 GTS Dino will continue to captivate all who experience it first-hand, complete with an aggressive exhaust note providing the perfect soundtrack.
