1 of 20 Roadsters Ever Built, 1968 Chevrolet L-88 Corvette Roadster, Offered at Russo and Steele Scottsdale

Documented, Verified, and Equipped with 2 Factory Tops

Scottsdale, Arizona (December 14, 2011) – After years of research and development work Corvette came out with the L-88 option package launching them into the winners circle in not only local, but also in world class races, such as the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona.  Chevrolet produced the L-88 option for only three short years; 1967 – 1969.  Its instantaneous success on the track made the L-88 Corvette synonymous with champions.

According to Dr. Pete Gimenez, author of the Corvette Racing Legends, The Story of the L-88 Option Package, “Although only 216 L-88 Corvettes rolled off the St. Louis Corvette Plant assembly line during these three model years, the L-88 created an image of power and prestige that would live on with the Corvette for decades.”  He went on to state that “most of the race prepared L-88 Corvettes that competed on tracks in the United States and Europe are featured in my book, and so are the predecessors that led up to the creation of the L-88 factory racing option. These are the Corvettes that started the legend. These are the Corvettes that shaped a generation of Corvettes and Corvette enthusiasts, and they are the Corvettes that shaped the future generations of Corvettes.”

This L-88 was ordered new by Bob Holt of Grand Rapids, Michigan, because he wanted the “fastest Corvette available” at the time.  Bob drove the L-88 "Thunder Buggy" for many years until the current owners bought it on October 19, 2004. At which point, the car immediately underwent a frame off undercarriage restoration; but the owners kept the interior and convertible top all original.

In January 2006 Corvette Fever featured this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 on its cover and included a complete story about its history demonstrating that its popularity has only gained in speed throughout the years.

Probably one of the finest L-88 examples in existence this automobile has all the right equipment with the correct paperwork to verify its legitimacy.   The original documentation which includes the Factory Window Sticker, Dealer Inspection and Adjustment Schedule, Michigan Title issued to Bob Holt, Owner’s Manual, keys, Warranty book and Protect-O-Plate.   In addition, it also has a Classic Car Affirmation Certificates from Al Grenning of the NCRS authenticating the original trim tag, the original window sticker, the engine block and stamp pad.  The original window sticker indicates that the automobile was delivered from the factory with the Auxiliary Hardtop and very well could make this the only L-88 to come from the factory with both tops.

Only 80 1968 L-88 Corvettes were produced and it is believed that there are only about 40 of these automobiles still around today.  In addition, this is 1 of 20 roadsters ever built, making the 1968 L-88 an ultra-rare classic automobile.  Combine the rarity of L-88s, this Corvette’s unheard of documentation, its authenticity certificate, the fact that it is heavily optioned, and equipped with 2 tops from the factory makes this 1968 Chevrolet L-88 Corvette one of the most collectable big block Corvettes of all time.
