Russo and Steele Remains a Key Player in the Shelby Cobra Marketplace
1965 Shelby 427 Cobra CSX3127 sold for $1.1 Million at the Scottsdale auction in January

Monterey, California (March 19, 2012) Russo and Steele’s return to Monterey offers promising results after the 2012 Scottsdale auction raised the bar for Shelby Cobra sales. At its Scottsdale auction, Russo and Steele sold an original 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra CSX3127 Street 427 Prototype sold for $1,100,000.
The 427 Cobra was the fourth car of only 260 originals produced by Shelby and boasts a line of celebrity drivers, such as Scott Carpenter and Sylvester Stallone. The consignment and successful sale of the vehicle solidified the auction house’s status as a significant force in the luxury, collector automobile marketplace.
The Shelby Cobra was not the only high note in Scottsdale. Russo and Steele surpassed five world records, most notably for the sale of a 1968 Chevrolet L-88 Corvette for $687,500 and a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC for $429,000.
The 12th Annual Sports and Muscle Monterey Auction event will be held at an all new venue that remains in the heart of downtown, but will be nearer the Fisherman’s Wharf. The three-evening auction will offer over 250 of the highest quality, most luxurious and collectable European sports, American muscle, hot rods and custom automobiles suitable to satisfy any automotive desires.
Russo and Steele’s new location will afford an all-encompassing auction event complete with hosted cocktail and hors d'oeuvres receptions, inside and outside staging, lifestyle vendors, and its traditional, highly interactive, visceral ground level auction arena that provides cars with no separation from the buyers, known as the auction-in-the-round format and found only at Russo and Steele auction events.
