Russo and Steele Offers Three Vintage Mercedes-Benz Automobiles in Monterey
300SL Gullwing, 300SL Roadster and 300S Cabriolet to be Sold at No Reserve
Monterey, CA. (Aug 9, 2005) -- Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auctions will offer three beautifully restored Mercedes Benz automobiles at their August 20th "Sports and Muscle at the Marriott" auction in Monterey. They will be Sold at No Reserve. The first is a 1955 300SL "Gullwing," finished in traditional silver. It is offered with factory NSL-options, sport camshaft and performance front sway bar. Additionally, this car has full service documentation going back to the 1960s, and only 3,500 miles on the odometer since it underwent a full mechanical restoration. Gullwing Mercedes-Benz automobiles have always held position amongst the most sought-after collector cars on the planet.
Additionally, Russo and Steele will offer a red 1961 300SL roadster. This particular car is one of last fitted with drum brakes and complete with cast iron engine block. Hailing from Scottsdale, Arizona and having completed flawless participation in the Copperstate 1,000 of 2003, this SL has been well maintained and carefully housed. It recently underwent a complete cosmetic restoration.
Thirdly, a red 1954 300S cabriolet will roll across the block in Monterey. High-ranking political officials, celebrities and royalty often used the 300S. Upon release, the 300S was more expensive than the 300SL, and almost twice the price of the contemporary top-of-the-line Cadillac, With only 760 examples ever produced, the 300S has always been considered one of the world's most exclusive touring automobiles
Other notable cars offered by Russo and Steele include a 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 "Super Coupe," a 1968 Trans Am Javelin, a 2005 Ferrari F430 Spyder, and several significant Hemi-powered Mopars, among others.
Russo and Steele's August 20th sale will feature 75 of the world's finest European Sports, American Muscle, Hot Rods and Customs at their one-night auction in Monterey. The auction will take place at the Monterey Marriott at 350 Calle Principal in downtown Monterey. ALL CARS WILL BE SOLD at NO RESERVE. This auction is concurrent with the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and Concorso Italiano.
