Third Significant Shelby Cobra Added to Russo and Steele Monterey Auction

First Competition Car Ever Sold by Shelby American Offered at No Reserve

Monterey, CA. (Aug 16, 2005) -- A third significant 1962 Shelby Cobra consigned to Russo and Steele's August 20th "Sports and Muscle at the Marriott" collector car auction completes a trifecta of important Shelby American automobiles offered in Monterey at no reserve.

Chassis number CSX2011 was the first competition-prepared Cobra ever sold by Shelby American to a privateer. It has racing history at most major American sports car races from 1962 to 1967.

It was originally sold to John Everly on September 26th, 1962. Everly raced the car along side the Shelby factory team at Nassau Island in 1962, where Carroll Shelby said the immortal line; "Next year Ferrari's ass is mine!" The car returned to Nassau in '64, as well as races at Watkins Glen, the legendary Daytona Motor Speedway and other significant sports car races of the era.

The roll bar still wears the 1962 Nassau Island tech sticker.

In addition to CSX 2011, Russo and Steele is offering two other historically important Shelby Cobras: 1963 chassis CSX2138 is one of the first three Shelby Cobra team cars, and was built to LeMans specifications, and the one-of-a-kind 1965 Shelby Type 65 Super Coupe are both expected to bring bids of well over $1,000,000.00.

Russo and Steele is passionate about offering the finest in European Sports, American Muscle, Hot Rods and Customs in an intimate setting. Now five years strong, Russo and Steele has emerged as the preeminent collector car auction of the Monterey vintage car weekend.

Other notable cars offered by Russo and Steele include a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS, a Targa Florio-winning Alfa Romeo GTA and 70 other cars all offered at NO RESERVE!
