21 Apr Outstanding 1957 Porsche 356 A Reutter Cabriolet to Add Continental Flair to 3rd Annual Russo and Steele Newport Beach Collector Car Auction

For Immediate Release:

Scottsdale, Arizona (April 20, 2015) – From humble origins at a converted sawmill in Gmünd, Austria, Porsche’s sporting dynasty began with the sleek 356 designed by Ferry Porsche and Erwin Komenda. By 1956, the 356 A or “Type 1” arose to mark the first definitive update of the series and represented the company’s meteoric ascent to the pinnacle of sports-car design and production. Atop the fast-growing 356 model range, the Cabriolet revolutionized the sports-car concept at once with comfort and upscale panache matching the avant-garde styling and thrilling driving experience delivered by the Porsche.

Numbered 61560, this Reutter-built Porsche 356 A Cabriolet is a truly outstanding early-production example from 1957, featuring “beehive” taillights, “shine down” license plate lighting, and the early single rear bumper over-rider, which was shortly thereafter revised to a “split” configuration. A rust-free, lifelong California vehicle from new, 61560 enjoyed just two long-term owners throughout its lifetime until 2014, when the expert Consignor acquired it and then performed a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration to factory-correct standards. Retaining the all-important matching numbers powertrain and body, this 356 A Cabriolet is simply handsome throughout in red and tan livery and complete with five date-matched wheels and a top boot and split tonneau, plus a toolkit, jack, and owners’ manual. Copious documentation, including original California registration documents, work orders, and photographs, round out this immensely collectible and enjoyable classic Porsche.
