A professional frame-off restoration and high-performance build completed during the early months of 2013, this 1967 Ford Galaxie convertible is the product of a four-year effort. At its heart, the Galaxie features mechanicals by Brauns Automotive and power by a Ford 347 stroker crate motor that was taken to the next level by Pro-Formance Unlimited.
Beginning with a seasoned 6-bolt Ford small-block configuration, the engine block was bored and honed 0.030 over using a deck plate, the mains were align-honed, and the block was decked by 0.020. Dura Bond cam bearings were installed, a Brass freeze-plug and oil-galley kit was installed, and the exterior of the engine block was finished off with three coats of high-temperature ceramic engine paint. Reciprocating internal components include a new Eagle cast-steel stroker crankshaft and new Eagle I-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts and bushed pins, with the crank and rods riding in a set of Clevite P-Series main and rod bearings. Keith Black 10.0:1 pistons are fitted with hand-matched Hastings Performance rings.
The engine’s decidedly muscular sound is courtesy of the custom-ground high-performance hydraulic roller cam stabilized by a Ford Racing roller-lifter retainer tray. Excellent breathing is achieved with a pair of Dart aluminum performance cylinder heads featuring 62-cc combustion chambers and 170-cc intake runners. Stainless-steel valves measure 1.94 inches for the intake and 1.60 for the exhaust. Other excellent valvetrain components include high-performance valve springs and retainers, 7/16-inch screw-in studs, and hardened guide plates plus all-new ARP head bolts.
Backing up the hot engine is a 4L60E automatic transmission equipped with a 2,300-rpm stall torque converter and Compushift e-controller. A 9-inch custom rear-end is fitted with a US-93F custom gear set and Detroit Trutrac Posi. Jones Racing power steering, ceramic-coated “shorty” headers, and a custom exhaust system round out the impressive mechanical specifications of this Galaxie 500 convertible.
