The 2 – CV was France’s answer to the VW Beetle – a French “People’s Car,” if you will. Known as the “Deux Cheveux” or 2 – Horses, it was, and remains today, an engineering wonder of simplicity. It is said the unique suspension system was designed to allow the car to be driven over a freshly plowed field with a basket of eggs in the back seat. None could break. The entire car is an exercise in reduced weight, ease of maintenance, and operation. All this with four doors!
This car sports the “Large” 602 CC engine denoted as the 2-CV6 displayed on the trunk lid. Features include a deleted opera window, found only on a very few cars, four speed fully synchromesh transmission, inboard drum brakes in front, convertible, top, and the “Charleston” paint scheme. The interior is fully custom stitched by one of the most prominent Porsche 356 upholsterers in Southern California, The car has fully restored with new floor pans, and fenders. All rubber seals are new, and still a little stiff. Note the bumpers and exterior door handles have been chromed. Not a stock feature. Parts are readily available here in the US. And are very reasonable in cost.
As written in “How to restore Citroen 2CV” the following salient commentary. For many years the 2CV and its derivatives have been the source of many jokes and misconceptions. For example, there are many tales of adventurous owners undertaking daring trips in their 2CVs, and repairs accomplished at little or no cost. These tales have inspired the myth the 2CVs soldier on forever, and require little or no servicing. The strength of the design, though, does mean that there is some truth behind the myth, and, with a little nurturing, there’s no telling how long a 2CV can last.
If you have ever visited Paris, you no doubt have seen these wondrous cars sporting on the Champs Elysees, circling the Arc de Triomphe, and of course, the Eiffel Tower. Often as not, along the charming French country side, doing daily duty year after year. This example has been lovingly restored by Liberty Motorsports of Costa Mesa, California, the prominent Porsche 356 restorer.
