After having seen the popularity of the smaller 190SL roadster selling in the American market, Mercedes realized that an affordable sports roadster was a market winner. Working together the engineering and design teams came up a winning design with the “113” family of cars. These little two seaters often referred to as the Pagoda roadsters, were a hit. First released was the 230SL, introduced in 1963 it was replaced in 1966 by the 250SL. Finally, the one everyone wants, the 280SL was in production from late 1967 until February 1971. Great looks, and properly powered, these were luxurious sports cars. Each engine was run in for two-hours before being placed in the car, while the fit and finish was beyond reproach, engineered like no other car. The 280 SL represented the end of an era and while the SL name lives on, these are the cars that stir tales of great road trips.

The 280SL was the final incarnation of the Pagoda styling and examples such as this one are highly sought after. Given a full cosmetic restoration a couple of years ago, all mechanical components were brought back to their original factory specifications. Finished in its factory colors, this SL looks fresh and inviting. Wearing factory steel wheels adorned with original color-keyed full wheelcovers set this car off while the body is described as being just as it was designed, smooth, even and tight. Centered in front of the driver is the gauge package which is reported to be fully functional, and flanked by the tachometer and speedometer. Options such as the Factory Hardtop and Soft Top finish the tasteful exterior. The interior is equally as nice. Very rare 4 speed Manual Transmission, Air and Power Steering complete the interior. Considered one of the most sought after models in the SL family this could be you chance to own a piece of Mercedes history. This example is being offered with No Reserve.
