A highly enjoyable full custom evoking the look and feel of a modern high-performance luxury coupe, this striking ‘47 Ford is the award-winning product of an eight-year build culminating in an invitation to the 2008 Grand National Roadster Show. The all-steel body features custom mods including a 3 ½-inch roof chop and a 6-inch channel. The decked hood was fitted with a recessed NACA-style hood scoop, hinged side to side, and the side panels were removed. The cowl was tapered and hide-away wipers were installed for an ultra-clean look. The reworked nose blends with the grille and both the front and rear fenders were widened and flared. Both the head and taillights were Frenched, with pop-up units out in front. Outstanding detail work abounds, including the shortened and smoothed firewall, plus the custom-fabricated floors, trunk, and wheel tubs. Trim was shaved and removed and the body seams were filled. Subtle touches include a hidden trunk release and custom tie-down hooks underneath.
The upgraded 1947 Ford frame was equipped with 2” X 4” boxed steel reinforcements and tubular supports. Underpinnings include 1978 Camaro Z28 front suspension and coil-over shock absorbers, a Morrison coil-over 4-link rear suspension, and 4-wheel disc brakes. Following acquisition by the consignor in 2009, the mechanicals were extensively upgraded with the 351 Cleveland V-8 extensively rebuilt and equipped with a Comp Cams roller cam and lifter assembly, Edelbrock high-rise intake, ProForm 750 racing carb, and custom-fabricated headers with electric cutouts. Other features include an oil cooler plus all-new wiring and a battery kill switch. Power is delivered to a beefed Ford C-6 transmission with a Bandit shifter and line lock, driving the narrowed 3.73:1 Ford 9-inch rear end with Detroit Locker.
In addition, the exterior was handsomely refinished and pin striped. New upholstery was also fitted, along with new carpeting and a new console and dash. VDO classic gauges, remote keyless entry, and power-operated doors, trunk lid, and windows plus a Panasonic stereo unit with flip-up screen and power antenna round out the interior. Centerline Convo Pro wheels and Mickey Thompson tires complete the package. A customized 24-foot Haulmark enclosed trailer is also available separately, including red/black flooring, cabinets, electric winch, power converter, battery kill switch, and electric landing gear. A proven multiple award winner including Best of Show at the Peppermill during Reno’s famous Hot August Nights, this outstanding ’47 Ford custom coupe marks a truly exciting find at auction in Monterey.
