Original delivered to an Air Force Colonel in California in 1968, this 280sl was bought from the original owner by the current woman owner in 1979. Always garaged, and carefully maintained with 36 years of records this Mercedes was refinished with original Glasurit metallic Bronze-Brown color with clear coat, one of the earliest 2 stage metallic paint colors in 1990 and the paint remains in excellent condition with only a few very minor flaws. The vehicle was in storage from 2005 to 2014, and underwent extensive mechanical restoration, documented in the over 50 pages of records in the accompanying binder.

Original radio replaced with a Clarion unit Mechanical: In last 5000 miles
Replace motor and transmission mounts
Replace radiator, water pump assembly, fan clutch and all belts
Replace front and rear rotors, calipers, pads and all brake hoses
Replace clutch slave and master cylinders
Replace heater control levers and control cap, speedometer cable and tach cable, rebuilt tachometer and speedometer
Replace upper shifter bushingsand lower support rode bushings, intake hose and air filter housing gasket and filter
Rebuild injector pump, replace fuel lines
Rebuild engine including new timing chain and guides, new camshaft and rockers, valves, springs, gaskets, seals, all water hoses, belts, fuel lines
New Michelin tires, R&R king pins, upper and lower bushings, alignment
Full tune up, replace distributor, adjust valves, set timing and dwell, replace plugs,condenser, points, cap, rotor, wires air and oil filters and valve cover gasket
Remove and repair engine oil cooler, replace heater valve, o ring and plug
Rebuild cold start valve
Repair overflow tank
Replace exhaust system
Cosmetic work done in 1990-1991:
Remove all chrome, replate, replace trunk gasket, windshield gasket, door gaskets, post seals, shift boot, door step plates and mats, canvas top, tail lights, headlight doors.
Sand to bare metal, 3 coats primer, 3 coats correct original bronze-brown paint with clear coat
This 280sl retains its original interior upholstery and carpet, including the rear kinderseat, in good condition with a fine patina of age.
