Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale January 27-31, 2016 at Russo and Steele’s 16th Annual Scottsdale, Arizona Auction. Please contact us for more information.

Following the GT90 show car of 1995, the Ford GT concept debuted in 2002 to celebrate the Blue Oval’s upcoming centennial and it left no doubt as to its heritage. Inspired by the all-conquering GT40s that beat Ferrari at Le Mans and won the famed 24-hour race four years straight from 1966 through 1969, Ford’s newest GT was far more than a mere design throwback. In fact, it was a true ‘supercar’ the likes of which Detroit had never before produced, capable of lightning-fast sprints from rest to 60 mph in well under four seconds yet also tremendously competent in every other discipline, including cornering and braking. On top speed alone, it eclipsed Porsche’s V-10 Carrera GT and the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR. During testing at the Nürburgring’s famed Nordschleife (North Loop) circuit, the GT proved itself faster than some of Porsche’s very best.

Power for the new GT came from a mid-mounted, supercharged 32-valve 5.4-liter V-8 engine with a six-speed gearbox/rear transaxle, producing a monstrous 550 bhp and a throaty, muscular exhaust note to match. All-independent suspension and huge vented Brembo four-wheel disc brakes rounded out the mechanical package. No doubt to the delight of Henry Ford II, Enzo Ferrari’s fierce archrival during the 1960s “Ford vs Ferrari” era on the international stage, each Ford GT was most assuredly more than capable of blowing the doors off its competitors from Maranello.

Featuring space-age materials and construction technologies, each GT was produced in five distinct stages with initial assembly at Norwalk, Ohio’s Mayflower Vehicle Systems, paint by Saleen Special Vehicles in Troy, Michigan, engine assembly at Ford’s Romeo, Michigan engine plant, and followed by engine and transmission installation, plus interior finishing at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan plant. Interestingly, the Ford GT was the last vehicle project to be competed at Wixom. Only 4,038 examples of the Ford GT were produced in total, with approximately 550, 1,900 and 1,600 built during 2004, 2005, and 2006 respectively. Predictably, demand far outstripped supply, with early cars selling for substantial premiums over the basic Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and prospective buyers vying for vehicle-production slots.

While capable of blistering performance, these cars were also highly praised for their remarkable practicality in everyday traffic, and this car is no exception; the light clutch makes driving a pleasure, and the leather interior, which pays homage to the original GT40, is complete with electric windows, power features and air conditioning. Unlike its predecessor, however, the interior has more than enough space to accommodate taller drivers. Complete with its original window sticker and a dossier containing a wealth of documentation, this 2005 GT is simply handsome in its Centennial White clear coat paint finish and Ebony leather-trimmed interior. In addition to all of its “standard” features, this GT also includes the four highly desirable factory-available options for the GT, including the McIntosh audiophile-quality CD Stereo system ($4,000), lightweight forged aluminum wheels ($3,500), Grey painted brake calipers ($750) and painted racing stripes ($5,350). Delivered to selling dealer Crouse Ford Sales Inc. if Taneytown, Maryland, this GT carried an MSRP of $166,945. Fewer than 540 miles have been travelled from new.

An incredible cache of original documentation, literature, and more accompanies this stellar, low-mileage 2005 Ford GT, including:
