Chevrolet’s Chevelle was one of the most popular midsize American cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Spanning three generations from 1964 to 1977, the Chevelle was available as a coupe, convertible, sedan or station wagon with a variety of drivetrain options. But the first- and second-generation Super Sports and convertibles are among the most collectible Chevelles, and indeed the most collectible muscle cars of any kind.

This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Convertible is a nicely restored example with a four-speed manual transmission, power steering and power brakes. Trim tag with series 13867 indicates this car is a true factory SS 396. Clad in Regal Red (paint code R2) over black interior, it’s a classic combination that never fails to turn heads. Paint quality is excellent; the car is also nicely detailed underneath and in the engine compartment. 15-inch radials. Interior appointments include bucket seats and a center console.

The SS option package definitely packed a performance punch with the 396 engine, an upgraded suspension with higher-rate springs, recalibrated shocks and a thicker front stabilizer. The SS 396 series also got a different grille, trim, emblems and a hood with aggressive scoops.

Under the hood is a 396 cubic inch V8 with an Edelbrock intake and a Holley carb; it’s mated to a four-speed manual. The engine is very strong; clutch and gearbox feel great. Exceptional car ready to show and go.
