Carefully and continuously improved by the legendary Zora Arkus-Duntov, “the Godfather of the Corvette,” Chevrolet’s sports car quickly matured into a sophisticated and universally respected sports car. Following its groundbreaking launch in late 1962 for the 1964 model year, the Corvette finally gained a long-awaited set of four-wheel disc brakes for 1965 and continued to feature an ever-expanding list of available engine and powertrain combinations.
This Corvette was purchased in 1965 on special order from Stephens Chevrolet in New Orleans, Louisiana and enjoyed long-term original ownership. The interior is original excepting the carpeting and convertible top. During 2004, the carpeting and convertible top were replaced, and the car was repainted in the original color as the original lacquer finish had crazed badly. Apart from current tires, re-chromed bumpers, and other details, the car remains virtually as it rolled out of the factory. It was in storage in NOLA for about 10 years and then returned to weekly use in 2002. It has the optional hard top and a highway-friendly 3.08:1 rear end.
The original Bill of Sale, Protect-O-Plate, owner’s manual, and FM radio manual are included with the sale of the car. The indicated mileage is also accurate. The Corvette was shown at the La Jolla Concours during April 2013 and it received a First overall in class award. This highly desirable mid-year Corvette is an exceptional car with a great history that is fully documented and complete with maintenance records dating back to 1966 as well as various shop and build manuals. While not a “trailer queen,” it has been driven weekly.
