    1972 GMC K1500 Pickup

The laser-straight, rust-free body was completely disassembled, worked, and then finished in two-stage PPG Valencia Orange Metallic paint. The grill was professionally re-chromed by South Coast Chrome of National City, California, and the rear bumper is new. The black powder-coated chassis was fitted with new suspension components including all new springs, shock absorbers, steering components, and brakes. A new 2.5-inch Skyjacker all-spring lift provides the capability of tires up to a massive 35-inch diameter.

Ample power is delivered by a rebuilt and beautifully detailed engine by MJM Engine of Escondido, California. As this was the first ever rebuild of this original block, the engine was bored 0.030 over and outfitted will an all-new Eagle rotating assembly and Comp cam, and was then topped off with Comp 1.5 ration aluminum roller rockers, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and intake and a Holley Street Avenger carburetor. Built with a 10.1:1 compression ratio, the engine is reported to run perfectly on pump gasoline. A late-model serpentine belt system drives the under-hood accessories, and a set of ceramic coated long-tube headers with beefy 3/8-inch flanges look great while efficiently removing the spent exhaust gases.

The drive train is completed by a K-case GM 700R4 automatic transmission, which was fully rebuilt and improved with a Beast sun shell and HD clutch packs, and then tuned to perfection by Dave at San Marcos Transmission, the well-known 700R4 experts. The original NP205 transfer case was found to remain in perfect condition throughout; accordingly, it was cleaned and painted black, with the gaskets and seals replaced. The front and rear axles are original 3.73:1 Positraction units with rebuilt center sections and new axle shafts fitted.

Welcome additional touches make this truck a pleasure to drive, including a period-correct tilt steering column and Vintage Air. Interior accommodations include new black carpeting, new black vinyl seat covering, and a new Grant steering wheel. Vital functions are monitored by the original gauges and cluster, cleaned and retained. Additional entertainment is provided by a new stereo unit with Bluetooth connectivity driving an under-seat subwoofer and new Pioneer speakers mounted in the kick panels. Other excellent features and upgrades include replacement of the old in-cab fuel tank with an all-aluminum unit mounted between the rear frame rails, replacement of all lights with reproduction items, all new wiring using an American Autowire system and modern blade-style fuses, and an all-aluminum, four-core radiator with twin electric fans.

Rolling on all new 33X12.50 R15 tires mounted on classic alloy wheels, this exceptional GMC pickup has been a weekly winner at the prestigious Escondido, California “Cruisin’ Grand” car show, and has been invited to the indoor section of the GoodGuys Del Mar show over three consecutive years.
