In 1935, Ford added a new open car to its model catalogue, the “convertible sedan.” It combined the best features of a closed body, a cabriolet and a four-door sedan into one highly adaptable, quality design. Priced from $750, only 4,234 examples of the Convertible Sedan were built, the lowest production of all catalogued 1935 Ford styles. Production of this body style ceased in 1939.
The 1935 Ford Convertible Slantback Sedan offered here was originally purchased in San Francisco and owned by one family for most of its life. It is handsomely presented in attractive tan with a matching convertible top, a red pinstripe and red painted wire wheels with chrome trim rings and center caps. The brightwork is a combination of new and old, with the grille showing obvious signs of ageing and the front and rear bumpers being relatively recently re-plated. The exterior features dual front mounted horns and fog lights, a rear mounted spare tire within a hard case, and a trunk rack with leather trunk.
The interior features high quality upholstery, factory radio, and original banjo steering wheel. Engine is a “period correct” 85 horsepower flat head V-8 coupled to a 3 speed manual floor shift transmission. Vehicle was recently updated with new Walker radiator. A fine representative of a rare and attractive body style, this 1935 Ford Convertible Sedan will make a unique addition to any collection of vintage cars.
