This 1956 Mercedes Benz 300C sedan is a survivor offered in beautiful unrestored condition.
A single-family car with 61,650 miles, it retains original paint, chrome, green velour upholstery, and exceptional original mechanical condition. The photos do not lie – this car is in unbelievable original condition with real patina. The car runs great and is ready for a road trip. The sale includes exceptional original documentation.
Only three family members have owned the car. All have considered this car to be a special family icon – and the condition of the car today is a testament to 60 years of careful stewardship of this great automobile. This 1956 300 “C” was purchased brand new from the dealer in 1958. The original buyer was a successful businessman and the car was a 60th birthday present. Paperwork included in the sale includes written dealer correspondence detailing the features and the asking price [$8149.78 and the original sales receipt for $7,000 – cash. Features include automatic transmission (the first year Mercedes offered this feature), Becker “Mexico” AM/FM radio with 4 speaker surround sound, windshield washer, real wood interior trim, beautiful green velour interior, triple horns with two settings, adjustable hydraulic rear suspension, and much more, including safety glass, dimmable rear-view mirror, and his and hers heater controls. Original records include purchase documents, multiple owner’s manuals with handwritten notes, a repair/service schedule book, original large-format glossy sales brochure, many repair receipts, communications with Mercedes, sales brochures, and more.
This car has been maintained as a running family car since new. Since 2001 maintenance has been trusted to the renowned Mercedes specialists Steve Marx (Costa Mesa) and the late Peter Krausert. Peter replaced the original Borg-Warner 3-speed transmission with a rebuilt 1964 Mercedes 4-speed transmission – a huge improvement. Mercedes production records show that a total of 885 Model 300C sedans were produced in 1956. Few remain today and fewer still are single-family cars with only some 61K miles. An incredible wealth of documents, books, records, and other literature accompany the vehicle at auction; for a complete listing, kindly consult a Russo and Steele specialist.
