This 1957 Dodge D-100 Sweptside pickup is a full rotisserie restoration featuring a powder-coated frame, 315 Hemi V-8, and 3-speed transmission. All metal restoration with chrome and stainless trim in original condition, complemented by an Ash cargo-bed floor with polished stainless trim. Built by Dodge’s Special Equipment Division, the Sweptside was advertised as coming “Straight out of Tomorrow,” and marked one of the finest expressions of famed stylist Virgil Exner’s celebrated “Forward Look” design theme. lt was featured as “the Gentleman’s truck” and boldly styled with flamboyant tailfins from the ’57 car line, along with other stylistic tweaks including extended front fenders, hooded headlights, a new grille treatment, and a hood that opened 45 degrees up to a full 90 degrees for ease of maintenance. Introduced late in 1957 to compete with the upmarket Chevrolet Cameo and Ford Ranchero , the Sweptside included a fashionable wraparound rear window and 2-speed windshield wipers. In addition to its stylish rear treatment, this Dodge was offered in popular Adventurer Gold and Cream 2-tone paint, along with a 2-tone vinyl interior. This never-shown Sweptside benefits from a complete and striking restoration with every nut and bolt re-plated. Highlights include a chrome rear bumper and chain-less tailgate. This model was the true style leader for 1957 and an instant success, this example provides an excellent opportunity at auction.
