In 1989, Chrysler began development of the no-frills, fire breathing Viper, which debuted as the Indianapolis 500 pace car for 1991 with none other than Carroll Shelby, fresh from a heart transplant, driving it. That car sparked so much interest that Dodge moved quickly to take the Viper from concept to production – an outstanding feat! This 1996 Viper roadster was built with a rear-exit exhaust and the new motor with 415 rated horsepower. Only 721 of these snakes were built when they pulled the plug and began building the more numerous GTS for the remainder of the 1996 model year. Wonderfully impractical and fast, the Viper is getting more collector attention and stands as a relative bargain today. Highly original and never restored, it features the right colors, the right mileage, and the right equipment.
