For hard-core Blue Oval fans, the very rare Boss 429 Mustang represents the Holy Grail. Built to qualify Fords all-new Shotgun engine for NASCAR and homologated in the Mustang, the hairy Boss 9 was the most expensive Mustang of its era and very rare, with just 859 built for 1969.
KK1272 – Early S Code
Born on February 2, 1969, 5 days behind the scheduled build date of 1/29/69, this Wimbledon White 1969 Mustang was originally known as 150467 last 6 of VIN. The car left Fords Dearborn facility with a factory 428 Non-Ram Air motor, 4-spd transmission, high back bucket seats, traction-lok differential, console, power steering, power front disc brakes, deluxe interior dcor package, AM radio, and a competition suspension.
Instead of being delivered to the Jerry Alderman Ford in Indianapolis, the car was shipped directly to Kar Kraft where it was transformed from 150467 to KK1272, its official NASCAR designation. As KK1272 it became the 71st BOSS 429. The Kar Kraft transformation included the installation of the purpose built S code 429 Ram Air Hemi-head motor, modification of the front suspension necessary to fit the 429 Hemi motor, a functional front air spoiler, and a trunk mounted battery. Upon completion, KK1272 was diverted to Cutter Ford in North Hollywood, CA where the first owner took possession on 4/22/69.
Since the initial delivery, the car has been driven 32,445 miles believed to be accurate and was restored in 2003 by Dave Matthews. Dave reported that the car is very original, rust and accident free with all of its correct running gear, including S motor. Dave also noted that it was media blasted and painted its original white. It is a beautiful example.
On March 10th of 2006, the car was sold and delivered to its new owner by air freight in Luxembourg. The car recently returned to the US and has remained in storage until now.
