Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale June 2nd – 4th, 2017 at Russo and Steele’s 5th Annual Newport Beach, California Auction. Please contact us for more information. For 1963, the upscale New Yorker model line played a key role in Chrysler’s success, comprising 27,960 units out of total production of 118,800 vehicles for 1963, a model year during which the luxury marque occupied a respectable 11th place ranking in the American new-car market. New Yorker body styles were more formal than the other Chrysler series and included a 4-door Sedan, plush Salon 4-door, a 4-door Hardtop Sedan, and a pair of Station Wagons, in 6- and 9-passenger forms. The New Yorker Station Wagon was quite rare, with just 2,194 built in all for 1963. Ample power for the entire Chrysler model range was delivered by 340-hp, 413 cubic-inch Wedge V-8, mated to Chrysler’s Torqueflite automatic transmission with pushbutton controls. This 1963 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon was located as an original, low-mileage car in the Midwest through the Speed Channel TV program Car Search, and then it was modified to its present awesome condition. Even more power than stock is provided by a 426 Max Wedge pounding out over 450 horsepower, supported by a larger radiator and a rebuilt transmission, which retains the pushbutton shifter. Welcome upgrades include a reworked front end and disc brakes. In 2009, the muscular wagon completed a car rally from Chicago to Santa Monica on the historic original Route 66. At the end of the event, it was voted People’s Choice and gained the nickname Elvira. Equipped with a futuristic square steering wheel and lots of chrome, Elvira rides on a one-off set of Boyd’s custom wheels and stands ready to deliver a thrilling drive for you and several lucky friends while attracting plenty of admirers everywhere it goes.
