Jack Douglass Chevrolet of Hinsdale Illinois was one of the leading high performance dealers during the sixties and seventies. The Douglass dealership was the largest Corvette dealer in Illinois, and, was also well known nationally for their sponsorship of multiple national level road race cars.
Jack’s dealership was also a Yenko Network “Mean Ones” dealer whose exclusive Yenko territory included Illinois and Wisconsin. Jack and his staff sold many Yenkos that were part of the first batch of cars received directly from Yenko Chevrolet.
Through a series of events, Jack Douglass started to directly order his 427 COPO Camaros through his contacts at the Central Office. In so doing, he reached an agreement with Don Yenko to purchase the Yenko stripes and badging, and, to sell these Camaros to the public as Yenko Super Camaros. Thus, the creation of the Douglass Yenko.
However, unlike Yenko, Douglass personalized the Camaros and added additional rare options to suit the affluent Hinsdale market. This arrangement was similar to the one Yenko had in 1967 where Camaros were drop shipped directly to the Dick Harrell Performance Center in order to be converted into cars to be sold as Yenko Super Camaros. In both cases, the cars were never actually shipped to Yenko Chevrolet but, were sold to the public as Yenko branded cars.
This Daytona Yellow Douglass Yenko is regarded as one of the very best Yenko Camaros available. It was frame off, nut and bolt rotisserie restored by the legendary Super Car work shop, out of Latrobe PA. The options this Yenko features are COPO 9561, L72, 427ci 425hp performance unit, COPO 9737, sports car conversion, endura bumper, chambered exhaust, tach, center fuel gauge, soft ray tinted glass, X11 style trim package, AM/FM radio, air spoiler equipment. This Yenko retains all of its original drive train which is very unusual for a 427 solid lifter, 4-speed, Super Car.
The original engine has NOT been restamped and the VIN is at the back side of the block, by the oil filter.
The Special Heavy Duty COPO only rear end is the original BE code 4:10 12 bolt that the car came with from the factory. The standard black interior is also mostly original. The extremely low mileage is documented by prior owners, titles and registrations and believed to be original.
This Douglass Yenko has also been documented, certified and inspected by Ed Cunneen. It has a letter of authenticity and certification from Jack Douglass as well as the NicKey Registry Inc. / Stefano Bimbi. It is even verified by a copy of a rare Estate document, written by Don Yenko himself!
The car has been a favorite of many at numerous “Super Car Reunions.” It has been included in the Super Car Registry, at Yenko.net. This Yenko was also featured at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals where it was awarded the coveted Gold Spinner Award as well as a Top Gun, Best of Show award.
