According to Marti Auto Works, the factory authorized expert on Shelby Mustangs, this 1968 Shelby GT 500 KR Convertible (VIN #8T03R210192-03571) is just 1 of 2 ever produced. Original features included Ford’s new 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet engine, power disc brakes, power steering, power top, shoulder harnesses, and a tilt-away steering wheel. Upon completion on June 7, 1968 at Ford’s Metuchen Plant, s/n 03571 was shipped to Pico Rivera, California. It has remained in California ever since.
In 2005, s/n 03571 underwent a complete rotisserie restoration by noted restorer Richard Barnes. The car was completely disassembled and each step in the restoration process was photo-documented. Every nut and bolt was cleaned and replated. Every body panel was removed and repainted in the original color of Lime Gold (Ford Paint Code #2041-A). The original 428 Cobra Jet engine, C-6 automatic transmission and 31-spline 3.50 Traction-Lok differential were completely rebuilt. The saddle interior was restored, and the black convertible power soft top was renewed.
Shortly after the restoration was completed, s/n 03571 took part in the inaugural Muscle Car 1000 where it won the Drag Races as well as Best of Show honors. In late 2006, s/n 03571 returned to the restoration shop for Concours detailing. Today, s/n 03571 is a glowing testament to the golden age of Muscle Cars.
S/n 03571 offers the discriminating buyer the opportunity to own a fully restored, fully documented, numbers matching Shelby GT 500KR Convertible with its original build sheet, drive line, and nearly $100,000 in photo-documented restoration receipts. She is clean, correct and proven.
