A perfect combination of distinctive styling and tire-frying horsepower, the limited-production, 428 Cobra Jet-powered 1968 Shelby GT500 KR has long been a Hollywood favorite. This incredible example was purchased new by legendary actor Lee Marvin, the unforgettable star of The Dirty Dozen, The Big Red One, and many more films and TV shows. Already quite rare as one of just 318 convertibles produced, it is one of only 251 equipped with Ford’s C-6 automatic transmission. Abundant factory options and amenities included air conditioning and Mr. Marvin enjoyed his KR until 1972 when he gave it to his gardener, who retained the car for many years but drove it very little.
The Shelby passed through several more owners until Dick Bridges acquired it during the late 1980s and commissioned a complete concours-level restoration using only NOS parts by the noted Mustang expert Drew Alcazar’s Concours Restorations. In 1989, the KR took First Place at the SAAC-14 Concours and it was featured in several magazines, as well as a poster with Carroll Shelby. With less than 46,400 miles, the award-winning KR is accompanied by its original Shelby Automotive Pre-Delivery Inspection form showing the car’s serial number and Lee Marvin’s name and Hollywood address. Additional items include the aforementioned magazine features, four original Shelby American 10-spoke wheels on radial tires, ownership documents, and even a poster including this KR with Carroll Shelby’s famous autograph. Beautifully presented, this outstanding, investment-grade Shelby GT500 KR convertible is simply one of the finest of its breed.
