With exterior styling designed by Henrik Fisker and originally intended to celebrate the 1956-59 BMW 507 and to celebrate the dawn of the new millennium, the Z8 caused a sensation at the ’97 Tokyo Auto Show under the concept name Z07. Overwhelming denmand encouraged limited production of the Z8. Only 5,703 Z8s were built and just 2,093 were distributed in the USA, excluding the Alpina.
As a modern interpretation of a classic roadster, the Z8 is at once handsome and aggressive on all levels. The BMW Z8 is driven by a high-performance 5.0 litre V-8 sports engine. Characterized by its fascinating sound, this power unit, designed and built for two different car concepts, the BMW M5 and the BMW Z8, develops 400 bhp at 6,600 rpm, plus equally impressive maximum torque of 369 lbs-ft at just 3,800 rpm.
This 2002 BMW Z8 with sport red/black leather is 1 of just 77 produced in this excellent color combination. Even higher performance is delivered with Dinan engine software, Eisenmann rear mufflers, a BMW performance chassis brace. The Dinan Engine Software safely raises the rev-limit by 270 rpm, endowing your Z8 with a broader power band and greater road speed in each gear. The software also removes the top-speed governor, enabling the cars to attain their ”natural” top speed. The software also speeds up throttle response in the ”standard” mode and improves throttle modulation in ”sport” mode. The Eisenmann rear mufflers provide a dynamic sound, so that the exhaust sings under heavy acceleration, yet maintains the integrity of the car in normal driving. As described in Car and Driver magazine’s April 2001 test, the Z8 delivers “…427 Cobra swagger with modern sophistication.”
