Unveiled at Frankfurt in 2009 the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG ‘supercar’ replaced the outgoing Mercedes SLR McLaren as Stuttgart’s top-range, image-leading ‘supercar.’ Bursting with cutting-edge technologies throughout and making a unique statement while recalling the essential stylistic cues of the long-revered 300 SL of the 1950s and early 1960s, the SLS AMG was the very first automobile to be completely designed from the ground up by Mercedes’ highly respected AMG tuning arm.
A true ‘supercar’ boasting AMG’s proprietary 563-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the SLS AMG delivered an incredibly wide power band, 3.5-second sprints from rest to 60 miles per hour, and electrifying 11-second elapsed times in the quarter-mile en route to a 197-mph top-end charge. The SLS AMG GT variant delivered even greater performance potential with the AMG 6.2-liter engine fortified with another 20 horses bridled underhood. Torque remained unchanged at a stump-pulling 479 pounds-feet. The SLS AMG Roadster joined the stable for 2011 and provided unmatched open-air panache.
A Car and Driver magazine road test stated “At the track, though, the SLS is everything you’d expect of a $200,000-plus car designed from the ground up by power-drunk AMG. We tested an SLS AMG GT coupe and roadster in back-to-back weeks, with the two cars posting nearly identical measurables.” Among the changes heralded by the GT variant, both spring and damping rates were increased and the former “Comfort” setting for the adjustable shocks was eliminated, with the SLS GT offering Sport and Sport Plus modes. Skidpad performance was electrifying at 0.98 g.
This 2013 SLS AMG Roadster exemplifies the factory’s credo as “…Part sports car, part racecar, and every part a work of art.” In addition to its uprated 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the vehicle is equipped with the cutting-edge AMG Speedshift DCT 7-Speed transmission. A dual-clutch transmission, it includes full-manual shifting capability to boot. Appearance upgrades include the carbon-fiber grille and mirrors, and the driving experience is considerably enhanced with interior appointments including the Carbon interior package, exclusive Designo leather upholstery with contrasting red stitching, AMG Sport suede-and-leather steering wheel, and aluminum shift paddles. Excellent comfort and convenience features include Bang & Olufsen sound system with iPOD/MP3 media interface and COMAND head unit, heated seats and headrests, GPS navigation, rear-view camera, Parktronic, Keyless-Go, and so much more.
With only one prior owner, and “as new” three digit original miles, this stunning SLS AMG GT roadster from 2013 has enjoyed maintenance under its passionate former owner and it is now offered for sale, complete with a clean CARFAX report. Recently inspected and ready to enjoy and appreciate, this stunning example now stands ready to provide an unmatchable open-air driving experience for its astute new owner on all possible levels.
